How to Import Blogger Data into WordPress

Back in the year 1999 when Blogger (earlier known as Blogspot) was introduced, it took the blogging ecosystem by storm. The free access and ease of starting a blog via Blogger was one of the many reasons why it became the most popular content management systems

Fast forward to the year 2018, the crown of the most popular Content Management Systems is now worn by WordPress. Many people who once had a blog set up in Blogger, have now moved over to the WordPress ecosystem. But how easy is it to migrate all the data from Blogger to WordPress? If you’re looking for the answer, then we have all the steps mentioned for you, right here in this article.

How to Import  Blogger Date into WordPress

Step 1: Your first need to log into your WordPress Dashboard

Step 2: Once you’re in the dashboard, navigate to Tools and then to Import

Step 3: From the list, select Blogger and click on Install Now

Step 4: Once the installation is complete, you will receive a confirmation screen showing Importer installed successfully. Run importer. Click on Run Importer

Step 5: The next screen will tell you to upload an XML file to complete the import.

If you don’t know how to download an XML file from Blogger then follow the next few steps. If you already have the XML file ready then skip to Step 10

Step 6: In order to download an XML file from Blogger, you first need to login to your Blogger account

Step 7: Click on Settings in the left menu. Under Settings click on Other

Step 8: On the main screen you will find Import & back up. Under this option click on Backup up content

Step 9: On the next screen click on Save to your computer.

Step 10: Back in the WordPress dashboard, click on Choose File and select the XML file from your computer. Then click on Upload file and import

Step 11: Once the import is complete, you will then need to assign an author to the posts. You can either import the author from Blogger or assign an existing user from the WordPress installation. Once you’re done selecting the author, click on Submit

Step 12: The next screen will show All done. Have fun!. You can now check under posts to verify is the import is complete. You might want to check all the media content as the images may not get imported by the import tool.

That’s all folks, you’ve now imported your Blogger site into your WordPress installation. If you’re in the process of getting started with WordPress, we highly recommend checking out our new WordPress Hosting and learn how you can benefit from all the awesome features.
