How to identify if a 60 days lock was applied on a domain name during a Registrant Contact Modification action

A 60 days lock is applied on a domain name under the following conditions:

  • Domain is newly registered (less than 60 days old).
  • Domain was recently transferred in from another registrar (less than 60 days ago).
  • A recent contact modification was performed to change the registrant's name, company or email address and a 60 days lock was requested by the losing registrant during this action.

The first two scenarios are quite self-explanatory, i.e. the domain must have completed 60 days with the current registrar to have the lock removed.

In this article, you will learn about the 60 days lock applied during a contact modification action under which any of the following changes are made in the registrant contact details:

  • Registrant's name
  • Registrant's company
  • Registrant's email address

A registrant's identity is validated using the three field elements mentioned above. When any of these field elements are modified, the system treats this as a Change of Registrant and hence the Inter-Registrant Transfer Policy C (IRTP-C) is invoked as soon as such a request is placed. The Change of Registrant is effected after the successful completion of the IRTP-C process.

During the above process, the losing registrant can choose to apply a 60 days lock on the domain after successful completion of the IRTP-C process.

If the request was auto-approved by your reseller acting as a Designated Agent (DA) for you, then it is mandatory to apply the 60 days lock.

Here's how you can determine if your domain was locked during a contact modification action (IRTP-C / Change of Registrant):

  • Login to your control panel.
  • Jump to the domain overview page.
  • Click on the "Actions" button in the top row as shown in the screenshot below:

  • If the contact modification was performed within the last 24 hours, then click on "Current Actions". Else, click on "Archived Actions".
  • Click on the description of the contact modification action as shown in the screenshot below:

  • On the next page, look for "sixty_day_lock" in the "Other Info" section as shown in the screenshot below:

If a 60 days lock was selected at the time of placing the contact modification action, then the answer for "sixty_day_lock" will be "true".

It is advised that you carefully choose the 60-day lock option while modifying the registrant contact. The lock once applied will only be lifted at the end of 60 days. Also, there is no option to lift the lock from the OrderBox control panel.
